Profile of Directors

Aditya Narayan

Chairman


Aditya Narayan joined the Board effective 30th April 2016.

Aditya Narayan brings with him a rich industry experience of over 40 years. He served the erstwhile ICI Limited, now known as Akzo Nobel India Limited, for about 30 years across diverse functions and businesses. He was its Managing Director from 1996-2003 and then its non-executive Chairman from 2003-2010. From 2005-2009, he was the President and CEO of BHP Billiton, India. Additionally, he has served as an Independent Director on the Boards of number of companies.

Shailesh Ayyangar

Managing Director


Shailesh Ayyangar is the Managing Director of the Company since 25th October 2010.

Prior to joining Sanofi, Shailesh held senior positions for 14 years in SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), in India and in Great Britain. He began his career as a practicing veterinarian in the rural areas of Gujarat where he was employed by the National Dairy Development Board. With his wide-ranging experience of over three decades in the industry, Dr. Ayyangar leads the OPPI (Organization of Pharmaceutical Producers’ of India) - an industry body representing research based pharmaceutical companies of India. Since 2013, he has been unanimously elected as the President of OPPI.

S. R. Gupte

Independent Director


S. R. Gupte joined the Board on 9th March 1993.

S.R. Gupte joined Air India in 1969 and held various positions in India and abroad. He was promoted as Director of Finance in May 1988 and also took charge as Director-Human Resources Development in August 1988. He was also entrusted with the functions of Deputy Managing Director at the same time. He took over in the acting capacity as Chairman and Managing Director of Air India from 17th July 1990 and was also Chairman of Hotel Corporation of India till November 1991. He retired from Air India in March 1992 as Deputy Managing Director. He is currently advisor to various companies and serves as Directors in many companies.

A. K. R. Nedungadi

A. K. R. Nedungadi joined the Board on 13th January 2000.

A.K. R. Nedungadi joined the United Breweries Group in 1990 as Corporate Treasurer. Within two years, he became the Group Finance Director of its International business, which included the paint giant Berger Jenson and Nicholson with operations spanning 27 countries. Since his appointment as the President and Group CFO in 1998, he led the way to sharpening the focus of the Group, which had a conglomerate approach, on areas of competence and global reach.

Rangaswamy R. Iyer

Rangaswamy R. Iyer joined the Board on 30th October 2013.

Rangaswamy Iyer is currently an Advisor / Consultant to various companies in the Pharma Industry in the areas of Mergers, Acquisitions, Business Strategy and Business Development. He is also an Advisor to Global Pharma Associations in the areas of Intellectual Property Rights / Regulatory matters, and to India Health Progress. He was the Managing Director of Wyeth Limited, subsidiary of Wyeth USA for 10 years till end Oct 2009.He joined Cyanamid in 1980, transitioned to Wyeth in 1998 and rose to become its Managing Director in the year 2000. He has also been President of Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) from 2007 to 2009, President of American Chamber of Commerce, Mumbai Chapter, Managing Committee Member of Bombay Chamber of Commerce for four years and of Indian Merchants Chamber for one year.

Usha Thorat

Independent Director


Usha Thorat joined the Board on 30th April 2017.

Usha Thorat joined the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1972. She became its Deputy Governor in 2005 and remained in this position till 2010. After stepping down from RBI, Usha Thorat was entrusted by the RBI to set up the Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning (CAFRAL) in banking and finance. She held charge as Director of CAFRAL from 2011 to 2014. She is active with a number of non-Governmental organizations including the Indian Cancer Society as trustee and Chairperson of the Governing and Advisory Council of the Cancer Cure Fund. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the Foundation for Ecological Security that works on issues of sustainability and equitable development, and is a Trustee of the Impact India Foundation that works in the health space. She is also Vice President of the Bombay Natural History Society.

Cyril Grandchamp-Desraux

Non-Executive Director


Cyril Grandchamp-Desraux joined the Board on 27th February 2017.

Cyril Grandchamp-Desraux joined Sanofi in 2002, after starting his career as sell-side financial analyst in Natixis. He held successive positions at Sanofi Headquarter in Paris as Business Control & Support Manager for Global Commercial Operations, Strategic Planning for APAC Region, Attaché to the SVP of APAC Region, and Chief of Staffs of the President Global Pharmaceutical Operations until he became General Manager Finland & Head of Diabetes Division for Nordic & Baltic countries in 2010. He was then appointed as Head of Indochina and General Manager in Vietnam in 2012. In April 2015, he was promoted to ASEAN Zone Head Rx and Singapore Country Chair, and subsequently, in Jan 2017, he was appointed as Head of Asia Business for Sanofi.

Thomas Rouckout

Non-Executive Director


Thomas Rouckout joined the Board on 27th February 2017.

Thomas Rouckout started his career in the year 2002 with the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry, in Paris as Portfolio Manager supporting French public companies in the implementation of their strategic decisions such as major capital expenditures, mergers and acquisitions. He also helped preparing and implementing the privatization process of public companies on behalf of the French Government. From year 2006 to 2012, he joined Alstom Group first as Group Management Controller in Corporate, then as CFO for the Alstom Power Gas turbines Operations and Maintenance business in Zurich, Switzerland, then as Vice-President Finance, Operations Controlling for the Grid sector. He joined Sanofi in 2012 as Group Controller and is currently, the Head of Finance for Pharma Solids in Industrial Affairs.

Lionel Guerin

Whole Time Director and Chief Financial Officer


Lionel Guerin joined the Board on 21st October 2015.

Lionel has held increasingly responsible positions in Finance over the last 15 years. He started his career in Saint-Gobain as a plant controller, then was first promoted to a position of CFO in Poland and later, got extended responsibilities to a regional CFO position in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Lionel joined Sanofi in June 2011 as the CFO in Poland. He was appointed on the Board as Alternate Director to F. Briens from 21st October 2015 to 1st June 2016.

Ashwani Sood

Whole Time Director


Ashwani Sood joined the Board on 21st October 2015.

Ashwani Sood was appointed Senior Director, Industrial Affairs, South Asia, in April 2015. He joined the Company in 1988 as Officer–Production in the Mumbai factory. During his long sting with Sanofi, Ashwani worked at different positions, and rose to the level of Senior Director - Ankleshwar site prior to being appointed at the current position. Before joining Sanofi, Ashwani worked with E Merck and Searle India Limited.

N. Rajaram

N. Rajaram joined the Board on 21st October 2015.

N. Rajaram joined Sanofi as Country Head and General Manager - Pharmaceutical Operations, India in 2014. At Sanofi, he brought with him a rich experience of 19 years with Unilever in India and South East Asia. At Unilever, he held a variety of sales and marketing roles, where he built and managed some of the Company’s most iconic brands. More recently, Rajaram worked for over 2 years at one of India’s largest telecom companies – Bharti Airtel, as Chief Marketing Officer and CEO (Data & Digital group) successively.
